Finding Where I Fit

Does your Middle/High schooler enjoy watching T.V.?

Movies?

YouTube?

Role Playing Video games?

This program is designed for Middle and High school kids interested in creating, directing and starring in their very own movie.

They will engage in both solo creative time as well as teamwork to develop a storyline they can be proud of, based on characters they create!

By the end of our 8 weekly sessions we will have produced a film full of hard work and creativity and hopefully, they will have met friends who share their interests!

While having fun they will also be developing skills such as:
  • Understanding others' feelings
  • Sharing about themselves to others
  • Self-Regulation
  • Problem Solving
  • Adapting to Changes in Routine and Social interactions
  • Creating and maintaining healthy relationships with peers

A social resource for
Middle
and High Schoolers

Ironically, Traditional social skills programs are often ineffective for those who would benefit from them most. Difficulties with language, memory and attention often get in the way of forming meaningful peer connections.

This 8 week social development program is appropriate for middle and high school children who have expressed both a difficulty with and a desire to communicate and belong within their peer groups.

They may be formally diagnosed or self-identify as a neurodivergent individual.

The program focuses on inclusive group activities to foster self-confidence and competency.

It helps the participants develop:

  • Theory of Mind -the capacity to understand other people by ascribing mental states to them

  • Flexible Thinking - the ability to think about things in a new or different way. It helps to deal with uncertainty, solve problems, adjust to changes, and incorporate new information into our plans and ideas. A key component of self-regulation.

  • Empathy - the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.

  • Narrative Ability - Understand and tell stories and describe events. Important for: reading comprehension, entertainment, re-telling events, telling others about ourselves, giving instructions, reporting, persuading and describing. This makes it a large part of healthy relationships.
